2021 Week 0.5 Injury Update

What's Happenin'?

Sven back with a quick "catch you up to speed" article for our Monster of a Week 1. Most teams have played or are playing their second game of the season today, and there are a few key observations on the injury front:

Jordan Staal on COVID list

As much as we don’t want this to happen to any player, it was expected that some players would wind up testing positive during the season.

This creates more ice time for Vincent Trocheck, who looked very good skating with Andrei Svechnikov and Martin Necas against the Red Wings. Despite Carolina losing the game, Svechnikov flexed his elite scoring muscles netting both Canes goals.

Trocheck is currently about 20% owned on both Yahoo and ESPN, while Necas is 15% on ESPN and only 8% on Yahoo. These three could catch fire in the next couple games!

Alex Nylander out 4-6 months following knee surgery

What else can go wrong for the Hawks? It’s no secret they got steamrolled by Tampa in their first meeting, but the Blackhawks showed some fight in game 2. They will have to lean heavy on Debrincat and Kane, but this creates an opportunity for one-trick pony Brandon Pirri to potentially light the lamp.

Five years ago he scored 22 goals in just 49 games with the Panthers, then in 2018-19 he had 12 goals in 31 games for Vegas playing microscopic minutes. Opposing teams need to take him seriously. YOU need to keep an eye on him in case he starts scoring like crazy again!

Third line magic

With Mikko Koivu out due to Covid protocols, it’s worth noting that the Blue Jackets found some offence in their second consecutive loss to the Predators. Third line combo of Nick Foligno, Alexandre Texier and Liam Foudy scored both goals for Columbus Saturday night.

Foudy and Texier are solid targets in dynasty leagues, and they should blossom into respectable players this season.

That's all for now folks! Stay tuned to the YouTube page as Mike and I break down our observations from the first few games, and be sure to check out our DFS content!

Take care,

- FP Sven
