Draftkings Strategy 03-17 (6 Game Slate)

What’s up boys, hope you all are having a good Wednesday. A new day means a new slate and another opportunity to hopefully take down a big contest. The last few weeks have been treating me nice in Draftkings, only missing out on profit a few times. With that said, I’m going to review tonight’s slate and give you some of my favourite lines/picks that I’ll be targeting tonight.

Favourite Lines/Stacks:

Vancouver (3.27 Goals)

To no surprise, the Canucks are again an intriguing target on the road against a horrendous Senators team. Sometimes I wonder why these Canucks prices are so affordable in a very good matchup, but hey it’s just one more reason why we should take them. The Senators have given up the most goals this season and have given up the most goals per game, but I still feel worse for Buffalo right now.

The way I am playing this is looking at 3-man stacks of full-lines and powerplay.

Tanner Pearson ($4800) - Bo Horvat ($5900) - Jake Virtanen ($3200)

This line comes in as our best value tonight, this line is playing top line minutes, and Pearson/Horvat have PowerPlay 1 correlation. Don’t forget about Virtanen if you’re entering multiple lineups, he is going to be the lowest owned out of the three, and if you full line stack it should help you get different from the field. From the research I’ve done, there is no real hard line-matching tonight, so expect this line to play against the top 2 lines in Ottawa.

J.T. Miller ($6300) - Brock Boeser ($6700) - Nils Hoglander ($3900)

Similar to the top line, the Vancouver 2nd line grades out as solid value and a high point projection. The way I am playing this in most of my lineups is 2-man stacking Miller/Boeser, or pairing both of them with Horvat or Pearson. Hoglander doesn’t grade out as THAT good of value, and you can sub him out for Pearson and pay up only $900 more for a player with a higher floor and PowerPlay 1.

New York Rangers Powerplay (2.92 goals)

Mika Zibanejad ($5800) - Artemi Panarin ($7100) - Ryan Strome ($5100)

I don’t think anyone is excited to see Zib’s name up here, but he grades out as one of the best plays tonight, even though he has been extremely cold. His ownership should be low enough to get excited about his upside. The Flyers are averaging 3.12 penalties/game and have a brutal 74% penalty kill. I’m confident that with Panarin back in the lineup, it should help to elevate Zib’s game, and I’m going back to them tonight. You can get weird with these stacks, Chris Kreider ($6300) is also in play, but his price tag is a little too high for my liking. I’m looking to target good value tonight and the Zib/Panarin combo at ($12,900) is very affordable given the upside. Don’t be scared off by Zib’s game log and how his season has gone, he is a player that has proven to be streaky and we want to be on the Zib train when that happens.

Vegas Vegas and more Vegas (3.68 goals)

The final team that I want to target tonight is Vegas, and the title explains itself… I want every piece of this Vegas game. From what we know right now, Alex Tuch and Chandler Stephenson are questionable to play tonight, but that shouldn’t change anything. This Vegas roster is great and the top 2 lines are where I’m going to tonight.

There are many ways to play this tonight, you can 2-man Mark Stone ($6900) and Max Pacioretty ($8100), or you can add Glass and full line stack. And the same goes for the Vegas 2nd line, but with them, I am more intrigued stacking them as a whole line as they have really strong correlation (if one scores, it’s likely the others will assist on the goal). William Karlsson ($5300) is someone that you can pair with Stone/Pacioretty for the Powerplay correlation as well.

Max Pacioretty tonight is one of the best floor/value plays on the slate, at $8100 in an extremely favourable matchup. His shot totals are one of the highest in the league, he almost guarantees you the shot bonus.

Favourite Defenseman (High Price/Mid Priced/Low Priced)

High Priced Defenseman:

Shea Theodore ($6300)

  • With Alex Pietrangelo as a game time decision, expect Theodore to see more minutes and more opportunity to produce. Theodore is top 10 in the league for shot attempts by a defenseman, and on top of that he has very high point upside especially in this matchup tonight.

Mid-Priced Defenseman

Jacob Trouba ($4300)

  • I feel like I’m repeating myself at this point but, similar to Theodore’s situation, with Adam Fox out for the Rangers, Trouba gets a big bump in his projection. He is now quarterbacking the top Powerplay (although, is he not much of an offensive minded defenseman), and his minutes are hard to ignore from last game up at 27:23. The $4300 price on Trouba is extremely low given his upside tonight, he should be a common player throughout your lineups tonight.

Alex Edler ($4900)

  • Edler is one of the safest play on any given slate. He is a shot block machine, and has had 2 more blocks in 13 straight games, reaching over 6 blocks on 3 times. It’s hard to ignore a player that has this high of a floor, and in a matchup against the Senators who throw everything on-net and have a ton of trouble defending in their own end. Vancouver also takes quite a lot of penalties, and Edler is the #1 option on the backend for the penalty kill. This has a positive correlation to his shot block numbers, so if Vancouver does find themselves in some penalty trouble tonight, expect Edler to have 3 or more blocks.

Low Priced Defenseman

Chris Tanev ($3300)

  • Tanev has been one of my favourite picks at this price range for the entire season. The theme with the defenseman at this price range is going to be minutes, and block/shot upside. For Tanev, his minutes have been well over 21 for the last month or so, and his peripherals have been outstanding. He has recorded 2 or more blocks and 1 or more shots in 11 out of his last 15 games. At $3300, his floor is very high, and that makes for a really safe pick. If Tanev can record an assist or a goal, it’s the cherry on top to pay off 3-4x value.

Noah Hanifin ($2800)

  • Hanifin may honestly be the most frustrating defenseman in DraftKings history. Dating back to last season, I still get nightmares playing him every night and seeing 24 minutes but only 1.5 points. Luckily for us tonight, Hanifin is skating with the top Powerplay unit, in a favourable matchup against Edmonton who CANNOT keep the puck out of their net. On top of that, Edmonton is taking 3 penalties/game and had a 76% penalty kill which are both really promising signs for Hanifin. Last game against Edmonton, Hanifin surprised us all and did skate with the top unit. His minutes jumped to 24:58 which is a season-high and he recorded a goal, 2 blocks and 2 shots. At $2800, you can’t go wrong with a Powerplay 1 quarterback in a pretty strong matchup.

Favourite Goalie

Thatcher Demko ($8100)

  • I feel like goalies should be $8500 any time they face off against Ottawa. The Senators shoot the puck a bunch, so the volume will be there for Demko. On top of that, the Canucks are -150 favourites tonight, so he does have good odds to get the win tonight. Demko is a goalie you can one-off in your lineups, or correlate with your Vancouver stacks.

Good luck tonight everyone, let’s make some money.
